Mamma Mia | Winter Garden Theatre

Father hunting and wedding preparations have never been this fun and bouncy.  “Mamma Mia!” delivers all that – and a little drama – with a huge help from all the ABBA classics.  It is a fun, feel-good theatre experience for everyone.

Sophie is all set to walk down the aisle except she would not do it without her birth father by her side, having brought up by her mother, Donna, alone by the coastal scenic view of the Mediterranean. Sophie finds clues about her father’s identity through Donna’s journal and sends wedding invitations to each of the men who surprisingly and to the amusement of Sophie, Donna and her two friends, appear at their doorstep and cause tension between mother and daughter as one tries to seek understanding and another tries to uncover the truth.

The musical will definitely appeal to the fans of the ‘70s Swedish pop quartet ABBA especially when songs like “Mamma Mia”, “Dancing Queen”, “Knowing Me, Knowing You”, “Take a Chance On Me” and “Thank You for the Music” among others are performed on stage by Broadway talents such as Alyse Alan Louis (Sophie), Beth Leavel (Donna) and others.

The musical is written for the stage by playwright Catherine Johnson and features ABBA songs arranged for the musical by ABBA members themselves Benny Anderson and Bjorn Ulvaeus.  Phyllida Lloyd directs while Anthony van Laast spearheads the choreography.
